Client:  The Hartford Financial Service Group

Background:  The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. (NYSE: HIG) is a leading provider of insurance and wealth management services for millions of consumers and businesses worldwide.

Business Problem:  Hartford's CIO wanted to rethink the structure of the IT organization and how it manages projects to handle its full project portfolio.

Approach and Solution:
Kaeppel consultants assisted in the reshaping of corporate IT, starting with refined program and project management.  This included people roles, organizational design, tools standardization, data migration, and process improvements.  We restructured governance of entire Capital Plan Portfolio, implementing phase gate control with standardization of steering committee agendas and purpose.  We introduced new roles for effective control of spending against the strategic plan.  Phases were restructured as “Justification”, “Design”, “Build/Test”, “Implement”, “Evaluate”.  We also trained teams for execution against these new phase gates and developed tailored training for “Excellence at Work”, “Risk Management”, “Issue Management”, and “Project Change Control.”
